📬 Important Update: USPS Postmark Changes & Your Mail Ballot
🔄 What Changed?
- Before: USPS automatically postmarked most mail, including ballots. Election officials used the postmark to verify mailing dates.
- Now: USPS no longer guarantees a postmark on all mail—especially prepaid business reply mail (like many ballot return envelopes).
➤ Some ballots may arrive without a visible postmark.
🗳️ What This Means for Nevada Voters
- In Nevada, your ballot must be postmarked by Election Day and received by 5 p.m. on the fourth day after the election to be counted.
- No postmark = no proof it was mailed on time, and your vote may not count.
📖 Legal Reference:
NRS 293.317(2)
“A mail ballot that is postmarked on or before the day of the election and received by the county clerk not later than 5 p.m. on the fourth day following the election must be counted.”
✅ What You Can Do to Make Sure Your Vote Counts
- Mail early – at least 7 days before Election Day.
- Visit a USPS retail counter and ask for a hand-stamped postmark.
- Use an official drop box or deliver your ballot in person if you're close to the deadline.
