Adopt-A-Spot
Welcome to the Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space (CCPROS) Adopt-A-Spot program page!
Background Information
Carson City has about 8,000 acres of parks and open space, and over 100 miles of trails! Our trail system includes about 25 miles of paved pathways, 14 miles of aggregate double-track trails, over 50 miles native-surface single-track trails, and many miles of trails for Off-Highway Vehicles. Trails promote a healthy community, offer recreational opportunities, and provide transportation alternatives.
The Parks and Recreation Department also oversees more than 20 different parks, 17 special use facilities, including the pool, Community Center, and the Multi-purpose Athletic Center. This Department oversees tons of recreation activities, some of which include adult sports, fitness classes, swimming lessons, youth recreation camps, outdoor recreation trips, and more!
Program Description
The Adopt-A-Spot program is an environmental stewardship initiative and a chance for businesses, clubs, families, schools, and other citizen groups to give back to Carson City community by helping with care and maintenance of a trail, park, or even a section of the Lone Mountain Cemetery! This program aims to build civic pride and involve community members in positive outdoor recreation. Groups who adopt a spot enter in a partnership with the Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space Department. The adopting groups agree to maintain their adopted spot by performing a minimum of two projects per year. Projects may include trash and dog waste clean-up, trail brushing, weeding, planting, and more. There is also opportunity for adopters to sponsor amenities in their selected park. This is a flexible program allowing for groups to schedule their projects based on their availability. Groups are asked to commit to at least two years of adoption, and a sign for the adopters will be placed at the trailhead or in selected park in recognition of their partnership and commitment.
