Description:

The Carson River Trail extends 5-miles from Morgan Mill to the Mexican Dam. Accessible to persons of all ages and abilities, it is made up of six segments: Empire Ranch Segment, Eagle Creek Segment, Riverview Segment, Buzzy's Ranch Segment, Silver Saddle Ranch Segment, and Mexican Ditch Segment.  It boasts beautiful fall colors and there are sign panels at several locations with information about local natural and cultural history.

Dogs permitted under control of owner. Dogs must be on leash on the Buzzy's Ranch Trail segment. Please do not let your dogs disturb wildlife.

Access from Morgan Mill River Access, Empire Ranch Trailhead, Riverview Park, and Carson River Park.

Rating GreenEmpire Ranch Trail

Description:

This  trail connects the south Empire Ranch Estates Park (1466 Empire Ranch Road) and the Morgan Mill Road River Access Area. A gravel parking area is available at Empire Ranch Estates Park and a paved parking area is available at the Morgan Mill Road River Access Area. The trail travels along the Carson River and turns west along the south side of Empire Ranch Golf Course to Empire Ranch Road. A portable toilet (summer only), benches, and picnic tables are located at the Morgan Mill Road River Access Area. The portion of this trail that paralles the river is a 1.1-mile segment of the Carson River Trail.

Easy. Maximum grade 2%.

Type of Trail:

Description:

This trail is a segment of the Carson River Trail, connecting the Empire Ranch Trail with the Riverview Park Trails. A 72" wide bridge crosses Eagle Creek.

0.5 miles

Difficulty:

Easy. Maximum grade 2%.

Description:

Located at the east end of Fifth Street, Riverview Park is a 109 acre natural area, with wetlands and a network of trails which extend to the banks of the Carson River.  The eastern most trail in Riverview Park serves as a 0.6-mile segment of the Carson River Trail. The Mexican Ditch Trail is also accessible from Riverview Park, and there are many options for loops, making this a perfect venue for Walk/Run Events.

Dogs permitted under control of owner. These trails extend through important wildlife habitats, so please do not let your dogs disturb wildlife.

Access:

Riverview Park Trailhead (Korean War Veterans Memorial) 603 Marsh Road. There is also a neighborhood access - Hidden MeadowsTrailhead - at 965 Buzzy's Ranch Road.  

Length:

3.1 miles of trails (0.6 miles is a segment of the Carson River Trail.

Difficulty:

Easy. Average grade 2%.

Type of Trail:

72" - 96" - wide, with a compacted DG surface.

Description: 

This is a segment of the Carson River Trail and it provides for a beautiful walk, run, bike ride, or equestrian ride along the Carson River and through a working ranch, with views of Prison Hill and the Carson Range. Great trail for birding and fall colors. Interpretive signs provide information about birds of the Carson River and give a history of ranching in Eagle Valley.

Access from Riverview Park or Carson River Park.

Dogs permitted, but please, they must be on leash -- this trail crosses a working ranch and is adjacent to critical migratory bird habitat.

1.1 miles

Difficulty:

Easy. Average grade 1%.

Type of Trail:

96" - wide with a compacted DG surface.

Description: 

This trail begins at Carson River Park and it is a segment of the Carson River Trail. It provides access to the river observation deck and has connections to Silver Saddle Ranch. 

Dogs permitted under control of owner. Please do not let your dogs disturb wildlife or ranch livestock.

Length:

0.6 miles

Difficulty:

Easy. Typical grade 2%, maximum grade about 4%.

Type of Trail:

72" wide. Surface varies - compacted DG and native soil.

Description: 

Easy walk, run, bike ride or equestrian ride along the historic Mexican Ditch. This trail is part of the Carson River/Prison Hill Trail System and it connects with many other trails, providing many options for loops.

Section 1 (North) extends from the Moffat Open Space (Hells Bells Road) to Silver Saddle Ranch. 

Section 2 (South) extends from Silver Saddle Ranch to the Mexican Dam.

Dogs permitted under control of owner. Please do not let your dogs disturb wildlife or ranch livestock.

Length:

Section 1 (North) - 2.4 miles

Section 2 (South) - 1.5 miles

Difficulty:

Easy. Average grade 2%.

Type of Trail:

10' wide. Surface varies - compacted DG and dirt.

Rating WhitePrison Hill Trail - East
 Hiking     Bike     Equestrian     Rating White     
Description: 

Easy walk, run, bike ride, or equestrian ride along the east side of Prison Hill from the 5th Street Trailhead to Silver Saddle Ranch. This trail provides lovely ranch views and it is part of the Prison Hill Trail System with connections to many other trails including the Mexican Ditch Trail.

Dogs permitted under control of owner.

Access: 5th Street Trailhead (corner of 5th Street and Carson River Road), or Silver Saddle Ranch.

Length:

1.5 miles

Difficulty:

Easy. Average grade is 4% with a maximum of 7%.

Type of Trail:

10' + wide with a compacted DG base.

Carson River Aquatic Trail
Description:.

The Carson River Aquatic Trail is a water trail designed for river recreation. It is divided into two sections. The Eagle Valley section is 3.3 miles long with class I rapids, ideal for most non-motorized water craft. The Carson River Canyon section is 9.3 miles long and contains class II and III whitewater. This section is meant for rafter and kayakers with whitewater experience. 

 The Aquatic Trail has various access points at East Silver Saddle Ranch, Carson River Park, and Morgan Mill River Access Area.

12.6 Miles

Class I-III
