Carson City Sheriff's Office Citizens Academy Open Enrollment

The Carson City Sheriff's Office (CCSO) is pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for the highly anticipated 2026 Citizens Academy. The 2026 CCSO Citizens Academy will commence on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, and continue through Wednesday, May 27, 2026. Classes will be held every Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., at the CCSO, located at 911 E. Musser St., Carson City, NV 89701.

Rules and Requirements:

1. Participants must be at least 18 years of age.
2. A Criminal History check will be completed on each participant.
3. Participants are required to wear appropriate clothing attire. (Business casual)
4. Participants are required to conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times.

Failure to comply may lead to dismissal.

1. Participants are not permitted to carry weapons at the Citizens Academy.
2. Class size is limited to 25 participants. Priority consideration will be given to persons living and/or working within Carson City.
3. Participants are highly encouraged to attend all twelve (12) classes.

Applications can be picked up in person at CCSO, located at 911 E. Musser St., or downloaded from carsoncity.gov/citizensacademy and submitted to Rob Rikalo at rrikalo@carsoncity.gov.

Limited seating available; early submission is highly recommended. The program is limited to 25 participants, ensuring an intimate and engaging learning experience for all.

This unique program provides an opportunity for community members to gain insight and firsthand experience into the operations and responsibilities of the Carson City Sheriff's Office.

The Citizens Academy offers an exclusive opportunity for community members to engage with CCSO law enforcement professionals, learn about their day-to-day operations, and foster a stronger bond between CCSO and the community it serves. Participants will have the opportunity to gain valuable knowledge of law enforcement procedures, explore the Sheriff's Office's divisions, and engage in interactive discussions and activities.

Graduates from the CCSO Citizens Academy will have the opportunity to complete an application and possibly conduct a ride-along with a CCSO Deputy.
