Mission

The goal of the Training Division is to ensure that the members of the Carson City Fire Department are provided education and hands on drill time to ensure the citizens of Carson City are provided the highest level of service in Fire Suppression, Technical Rescue, Hazmat Operations, and Emergency Medical Services. The Training Division will ensure that all members maintain and exceed the minimum certification and skill levels necessary to effectively serve Carson City. Additionally, the Training Division will continue to remediate and add to the training facilities to maintain the existing partnerships and expand potential partnerships with regional, state, and federal partners.

Overview

The Training Division coordinates and provides education and training programs to meet or exceed local, state, and federal regulations. The Training Division also facilitates hiring and promotional processes within CCFD. A significant portion of the training coordinated within the Training Division is the Carson City Regional Fire Academy, an academy which all new Firefighters are required to successfully complete. The Training Division coordinates and participates in interagency training with other local, state, and federal partners. These interagency trainings help facilitate seamless automatic and mutual aid partnerships, ensuring a safe and effective response for the citizens.

Training Division Functions

The Training Division continuously evaluates training needs for the personnel of the CCFD. This is done in close cooperation with the Operations Division to ensure that personnel perform as safely and efficiently as possible. Training delivery methods include regularly scheduled procedural refreshers, multi-company drills (Battalion drills), multi-agency drills, classroom studies, and professional development programs. This training ensures that Carson City receives competent and professional services.

The Station Captains coordinate individual crew level training based upon the needs and skills of their companies. They also coordinate and facilitate individual examinations and task book completions for promotional preparation. The Training Division maintains records of trainings and employee certifications, working with Human Resources and Risk Management to ensure safety.
