Weekly (8/23/09-8/29/09) H1N1 Flu Update

Post Date:09/08/2009

H1N1 Influenza is still circulating in Carson City, and CCHHS continues to track cases. Last week we had 8 new cases.  It is important to remember that these are confirmed cases only, and that many more people may have had influenza but were not seen by a doctor and given a test to confirm influenza.

There are steps that you can take to protect yourself against H1N1 flu:

  • Sneeze or cough into a tissue or your sleeve so that you do not spread germs. Throw tissues in the trash after use.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. If no soap and water is available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs can spread that way.
  • Try to avoid sick people. Stay home if you get sick. CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
