Public awareness and participation are among the Sheriff's Office's strategic goals. One way to achieve this goal is to provide the public with as much information as possible so they understand the environment where they live, work, and play. "Crime in Our Area" is designed just for that purpose.

The newest portal reflects the Sheriff’s Office’s ongoing commitment to provide advanced technology, transparency, community engagement, and public access to information. The addition of this platform is the second direct transparency portals activated in August.

Through the Community Crime Portal, residents can explore crime data, traffic matters, and other response items to better understand criminal activity in their neighborhoods and throughout the community. This interactive platform allows users to view data geographically, helping them identify crime trends and incidents in the areas that matter to them most. The portal will also allow residents to set up email alerts to remain updated about what is happening in their selected area of interest around town.

If it is an emergency, dial 9-1-1 on your phone. If you would like a deputy to come to you and it is not an emergency, you can call dispatch and request a deputy at 887-COPS (2677).

You can also come to the Sheriff's Office and file a complaint/ report with the front counter service technician. If you come to the Sheriff's Office after front counter hours, you can pick up the brown telephone in the lobby for assistance. This phone rings directly to non-emergency dispatch.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office does not accept complaints/reports by telephone, mail, or Internet.
