The Mounted Unit is dedicated to community service using horses, riders, and non-riding support personnel.  The Mounted Unit accomplishes its mission through functions that enhance community safety.  The Mounted Unit participate in ceremonial rides, parades, assist with crowd and traffic control, search and rescue, and any other function for which the Sheriff's Office may request the use of trained horses and riders.  The Mounted Unit is composed of private citizens who volunteer their time, horses, and equipment.  The unit conducts a week-long, annual mounted certification course for northern Nevada agencies.
